Meetings and Events

The second meeting of the Global Consortium on Yoga Therapy will take place on May 12, 2019 in Amsterdam. Representatives of yoga therapy organizations, schools, or other professionals interested in international discussions on standards and policy related to yoga therapy are welcome to attend. The meeting will be immediately after the Network Yoga Therapy Conference in Amsterdam, May 10-11. We encourage those interested in the Consortium to also attend the Network Yoga Therapy Conference.

The agenda for the second meeting is currently being drafted, but it will include both organizational matters (the structure of the Consortium and membership) as well as issues related to definitions and international standards for yoga therapy.  More details will be announced soon.

Those interested in attending, please contact the Secretariat at

Global consortium activities–General Info

At a time when yoga is seeing unprecedented international popularity and its therapeutic effects are being noticed, yoga therapy is also a rapidly developing field. Basic questions regarding definitions of yoga therapy and standards for certification and instruction are being raised in various international forums. We believe that promoting information exchanges and dialogue among yoga therapy organizations that represent diverse cultures and lineages is essential. In this way, we can respect the diversity in yoga while also creating a cohesive, consistent and viable profession that can work together with medical and other institutions.

The Global Consortium will focus on four main areas:

  1. Developing a shared theoretical framework for yoga therapy
  2. Facilitating information sharing among yoga therapists and yoga therapy organizations around the world
  3. Conducting, supporting and disseminating yoga therapy research
  4. Promoting yoga therapy worldwide
